Witcher 3 Remastered vs Next-Gen Update is the comparison this folio exists to keep honest. The 19 May 2015 original is the paid launch of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The 14 December 2022 Next-Gen Update is a free Complete Edition patch with ray-traced modes, photo mode and Netflix-inspired extras. Remastered, announced at gamescom Opening Night Live on 25 August 2026, is a further free overhaul that also changes combat, traversal, Signs, mounts, monster behaviour, the skill tree and transmogrification, and it adds Nintendo Switch 2 plus Battle.net. Trailer footage is not a frame-rate table; CD PROJEKT RED has not published performance modes.

What Remastered actually is

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered is a 29 September 2026 overhaul of the existing Wild Hunt client, not a sequel and not a new Steam app. CD PROJEKT RED announced it at gamescom Opening Night Live on 25 August 2026, with Yigsoft as co-developer. The official English trailer is IGk17XQ7IrQ on The Witcher channel. Steam still lists The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition as app 292030 and describes a free upgrade to Remastered on that date.

The overhaul is first-party on visuals and gameplay together. Trailer cards and the CDPR snapshot list upgraded visuals, enhanced combat, improved traversal and movement, new Witcher Signs FX, revamped mount handling, enhanced monster behaviours, a skill tree revamp, transmogrification, an expanded photo mode, and new finishers. Miles Tost, quoted in PC Gamer, highlights new textures, updated rendering, path tracing and foliage. That list is the 2026 product, not a reprint of 2022 ray-tracing notes.

Remastered includes Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. It does not include Songs of the Past. Official channels have not published performance mode numbers yet. Switch 2 exclusive features have not been itemised by CDPR. Use the wax seals for SKU/date/cost and the 2015 / 2022 / 2026 / 2027 chips to rewrite only the claims column.

The Remastered announcement still versus 2022 gallery art

The trailer facade plays only after an explicit Play click. Until then it is a poster, not an iframe. That still plus the 2015 / 2022 / 2026 seals are the two pictures this leaf needs: what CDPR showed in August 2026, and what the store already showed for Complete Edition. Photo mode, ray tracing and Netflix-inspired extras stay on the 2022 seal. Combat, Signs, transmog, Switch 2 and Battle.net stay on the 2026 seal and on this announcement still.

What the 2022 Next-Gen Update already did

On 14 December 2022 CD PROJEKT RED shipped the Next-Gen Update / Complete Edition as a free upgrade on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The press centre lists ray-traced modes, a photo mode, Netflix-inspired extras, and bundled expansions. That is why Complete Edition is still the Steam display name on app 292030. Owners who already took that upgrade did not buy a second game; they patched the 2015 client.

Photo mode in Remastered is therefore an expansion of a 2022 feature, not a first-time addition. Ray tracing in 2022 press copy is a Next-Gen claim; path tracing and the 2026 visual card are Remastered claims. Mixing those sentences is how store-page arguments go wrong. If a guide still says “Next-Gen Update” and cites December 2022, it is describing the middle layer, not the September 2026 overhaul.

The 2022 update did not add a native Nintendo Switch 2 version, did not put the game on Battle.net, and did not grant Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine to every remaining base-game owner in the 2026 announcement language. Those three facts belong to Remastered. Keep 2022 patch notes in 2022.

The 2015 original is still the paid launch

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt launched on 19 May 2015 as a paid open-world RPG from CD PROJEKT RED. Steam's English appdetails payload uses 18 May 2015 in some fields; both dates refer to the original SKU, not Remastered. That launch is the product Fandom and IGN encyclopedias still document as quests, bestiary and gear. This site does not import those 2015 walkthroughs as 2026 facts.

Hearts of Stone shipped in October 2015 and Blood and Wine in May 2016 as paid story expansions. They later sat inside Complete Edition store bundles. The 2026 announcement grants both expansions to current base-game owners and includes them in Remastered. That grant is a Remastered-era policy sitting on top of 2015 DLC, not a new 2027 region.

If you bought the 2015 disc or a later Complete Edition SKU on a qualifying platform, you already own the game Remastered overhauls. You do not need a second Steam license named Remastered. You do need to know whether your platform is in the free-upgrade set or on the Switch 2 claim path.

Songs of the Past is a fourth product

Songs of the Past was announced on 27 May 2026 for a 2027 window, three months before the Remastered gamescom reveal. Steam lists it as DLC app 5006530, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past. CDPR and Fool's Theory are co-developing it. The setting is Letten. It is a paid expansion. Remastered's trailer and upgrade copy never say it is included.

The Battle.net partnership sells both Remastered and Songs of the Past on that storefront from 29 September 2026, and expansion buyers on Battle.net unlock a Geralt-inspired Diablo 4 skin. That cosmetic is tied to the 2027 purchase, not to claiming Remastered on Steam. Do not treat a Battle.net bundle graphic as proof that Letten ships inside the free upgrade.

Use the version chips for a one-line claim per year. 2015 is the paid RPG. 2022 is the Next-Gen Complete Edition patch. 2026 is Remastered. 2027 is Songs of the Past. If a sentence could apply to two of those years, it is not finished.
